NCAA and NAIA
Considering playing a sport at the college level? Not sure where to start? The NCAA and NAIA are two organizations that govern college athletic programs. They are voluntary organizations that provide a framework for colleges to determine athletic and scholastic eligibility. Both the NCAA and NAIA have similar goals but their eligibility requirements differ significantly. We encourage students and families to consider both options -- there is bound to be an experience that's right for you!
In order for the NCAA to determine that a student is an eligible athlete, they must review a transcript to make that determination. Students are strongly encouraged to talk about their post-secondary intentions with their School Counselor and coaches so they understand how this process works and to understand their eligiblity. Lower Dauphin students must process their transcript requests for the NCAA through Naviance.

The National Letter of Intent is a voluntary program for Division I and II schools but once signed is a binding agreement between student athlete and institution. See website for more information: National Letter of Intent Division III schools are permitted to use a non-binding celebratory form to acknowledge student athletes. If you have any questions about the courses you have taken and whether or not you are eligible to consider athletics at a college level, please be sure to schedule a time to meet with your counselor, coach or athletic director!
