Thoroughly Modern Millie (2008)
The show featured 45 cast members in grades 9-12. The cast was led by senior Bretagne Werner playing Millie Dillmount, junior Alec Brashear playing Jimmy Smith, senior Sean Montgomery playing Trevor Graydon, junior Gracie Conway as Miss Dorothy, sophomore Katie Roksandic as Mrs. Meers, and senior Sarah Errickson playing Muzzy Van Hossmere.
The musical was a Broadway smash in 2002 winning six Tony Awards including Best Musical. The show features such songs as “Forget About the Boy,” Not for the Life of Me,” and “Gimme Gimme.”
Inspired by the 1967 film of the same name, the musical is the saga of Millie Dillmount, who comes to the Big Apple in 1922 in search of the flapper lifestyle and a rich husband. The play is accompanied by a subplot about a scheming woman and two Chinese brothers involved in a white-slavery ring.
“Thoroughly Modern Millie” was the 12th spring musical directed by Lower Dauphin graduate Kevin Strawser. The show was produced for the ninth time by Lower Dauphin graduate Debbie Heary. The student director was junior Sarah Holmgren.
