No, No, Nanette (2000)

No, No, Nanette

From farcical comedy to tap dancing extravaganzas, Lower Dauphin High School bought the roaring 1920s to life with the musical comedy “No, No, Nanette” in March 2000.

An instant Broadway hit when it opened in 1925 and the winner of four Tony Awards for the 1971 Broadway revival, No, No, Nanette is the story of the comic entanglements that occur when young Nanette sheds her ladylike shell for a wild and exciting weekend in Atlantic City in the 1920s. Naturally her boyfriend Tom, who has proposed to her, is opposed to her plan. Meanwhile, Nanette’s Uncle, Jimmy Smith, furiously tries to hide three “secrets” (named Winnie, Flora and Betty) from his wife.

The show features such delightful songs as “Tea for Two” and “I Want to be Happy.”

Margaret Aichele as Nanette and Steve Davis as Tom led the cast of 65. Ryan Taggart and Lindsay Atnip played Nanette’s Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Sue. Casey Collins and Meredith Nazar played Tom’s Uncle Billy and Aunt Lucille. Lindsay Gottwald played the role of the Smith’s dry-witted housekeeper, Pauline. Laura Bailey, Casey Kauffman and Crystal Hite played Jimmy’s three “secrets”.

The cast of students in grades 9-12 was under the direction of Kevin M. Strawser.
