Bye, Bye Birdie (2011)

Bye Bye Birdie
Lower Dauphin High School was proud to present “Bye Bye Birdie” on the high school stage March 3-5.

More than 45 students made up the cast of this year's musical. Senior Ronnie Myers was “Albert Peterson;” sophomore Rachel Chambers was “Rose Alvarez;” senior Zach Hixon was “Conrad Birdie;” sophomore Mary Kate Hoag was “Kim MacAfee;” and senior Kelly Enterline was “Mae Peterson.”

The musical tells the story of Conrad Birdie, the biggest rock & roll star of the 60's who has just been drafted and is about to go into the service. Aspiring chemist and song writer Albert is convinced he can make his fortune and marry his girlfriend Rose if he gets Conrad on the Ed Sullivan Show to kiss a high school girl goodbye. Albert's mother will do anything to break him up with Rosie.

The show opened on Broadway 1960, winning the Tony Award for Best Musical. It was also made into a 1963 film starring Dick Van Dyke, who reprised his stage role as Albert, Maureen Stapleton, and Janet Leigh.
