Alpha Distribution 25-26
Dear Lower Dauphin High School Families,
We are writing to inform you of an important change to the way our counseling team will be distributing students starting in the 25-26 school year. In the past, our school counselors were assigned to students based on their grade level. However, next year, we will be transitioning to an alphabetical distribution system, where counselors will be assigned to students according to the first letter of their last name.
Why are we making this change?
This decision was made with the goal of providing consistent, personalized, and efficient support for all students. By moving to an alphabetical distribution, counselors will have the opportunity to work with families over multiple years, fostering stronger, long-term relationships that can better support academic, career, social, and emotional growth. Additionally, the new system allows for a more balanced distribution of students, ensuring that each counselor has a manageable number of students to support, which improves overall service quality. This approach will also encourage collaboration between counselors as they work with students across different grade levels, allowing for more cohesive and coordinated support for your child’s journey through school.
How will this affect my child?
Each counselor will now serve a broader group of students, but the main change will be in the assignment based on the student's last name rather than their grade. Our current plan is to coordinate as follows:
Mr. Nate Espenshade: Students with last names A - Fi
Mr. Matthew Martinez: Students with last names Fl - L
Mrs. Lori Beaver: Students with last names M – Ri
Mrs. Tanya Dreon: Students with last names Ro - Z
If your child will be assigned a new counselor based on this change, please know that our goal is to ensure a smooth transition. Counselors will be reaching out to their new student groups during the Course Selection process to introduce themselves.
Next Steps:
If your child is currently seeing a counselor for specific concerns, rest assured that our team will work closely with you to make sure your child’s needs continue to be met during this transition. We encourage you to reach out to your child’s assigned counselor if you have any questions about the change or if you would like to discuss any specific concerns.
We are excited about the potential this new system holds for improving our support services and look forward to continuing to work together to ensure the success and well-being of all students at Lower Dauphin High School.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
