Healthcare Career Exploration Program (HCEP)

The HCEP program allows high school students the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals in a real-work environment and to explore various healthcare professions. HCEP is a partnership of the Pennsylvania State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and College of Medicine (PSHMC/COM), Central Dauphin School District, Lower Dauphin School District and Derry Township School District.

HCEP will be occurring during Semester 1 (August 2024-2025) for the 2024-25 school year. See Mrs. McMinn for information. Selection process occurs in March 2024.

PREREQUISITE:  Students are required to go through an application process in the spring of their junior year; this program will be scheduled during Periods 2-3 from 8:30-10:00 AM. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the medical center.

This program will introduce 30 selected Dauphin County senior students each year to a variety of areas at the Hershey Medical Center.  The HCEP (Healthcare Career Exploration Program) program allows high school seniors the opportunity to interact with healthcare professionals in a real-world environment and to explore various healthcare professions.  Students who have demonstrated an interest in medical, science and related careers are targeted for this senior program.  Students must apply and be accepted into this program.  During the 1st semester, students will rotate through various departments at Hershey Medical Center from 8:30-10:00 AM Monday-Thursday. Seminars will be held on Fridays at the hospital. Near the end of the school year, students will present a senior project at Hershey Medical Center. Journals submitted weekly via Canvas will provide the supportive evidence for the grade.
