ENGINEERING DESIGN

The Engineering Design class introduces students to the many areas of engineering. By completing activities and projects students learn the basic engineering principles. These areas include measurement, simple machines and steps of the engineering design process. They will use these principles and processes to complete many design challenges.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Students will be able to:
  • Understand, describe, and apply the concepts of measurement, force, motion, and energy.
  • Discover how to use simple machines together to create mechanical advantage.
  • Understand and apply concepts such as kinetic and potential energy, velocity, and efficiency.
  • Learn the principles important to building strong and stable structures.
  • Discribe strength of different joints and shapes, load, compression, and tension.
  • Understand and describe performance, energy, and other concepts relating to vehicles.
  • Understanding energy and forces and apply them to create mechanical engineering solutions.
  • Understand computer-aided drafting and learn how to use it to design engineering projects.
  • Build a solid foundation in how to use the SolidWorks CAD program.
