AP PSYCHOLOGY (1547) SYLLABUS
MR. KLOCK- ROOM 801
Course Description:
The course is designed to introduce students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields within psychology. They also learn about the ethics and methods psychologists use in their science and practice.
Goals:
This course will cover all of the topics outlined in the Advanced Placement Program Course Description Guide for Psychology. The aim of the course is to provide the student with a learning experience equivalent to that obtained in most college introductory psychology courses. The specific goals of this course also include the following:
1. introduce students to scientific psychology,
2. illuminate the process of research and its link to application,
3. promote a productive, questioning, scientific attitude to the discipline,
4. participate in and conduct original research.

Evaluation:
We will be utilizing a total point system. Grades will be derived from tests, quizzes, essays, homework, a three-step research project, and class participation. Tests will imitate the AP exam’s format:
67% Multiple Choice
33% Free Response.
The research project will follow all American Psychological Association guidelines for ethical research. Pertinent information for this project will be distributed during the first week of class.
Classroom Rules:
1. Demonstrate mutual respect for every person at all times.
2. Adhere to John Locke’s Social Contract theory outlined by Mr. Klock at the beginning of the course.
3. Use common sense.
